Amakhosi take on Phunya Sele Sele at Free State Stadium and will be looking to avenge last year’s 1-0 defeat.
Chiefs are well known for using the showpiece to give some of their youngsters a chance to play. But due to the MultiChoice Diski Challenge match – ironically between Amakhosi and Celtic – coach Stuart Baxter is unable to field his younger players.
This leaves him with no option but to bring his first team regulars who have played all the Absa Premiership and cup matches this season.
“One thing I need to clarify is that the Diski Challenge is for development and that has nothing to do with first team,” Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa tells KickOff.com.
“But I understand that when we play Macufe we often give some of our younger players a chance, but this season most of our youngsters are playing in the Diski Challenge.
“But the technical team have a plan worked out for this weekend and they will be taking a full-strength team to the Macufe.”
Chiefs veteran Josta Dladla has been used in the Diski Challenge matches, but this weekend he will be in the Macufe team.
“Josta is not a fringe player … he belongs to the first team. He was in the squad this past weekend as well.”
