OPINION: KG’s Cardiff move a smart one

KG’s competition next season
Cardiff boast a midfield with an average age of 25.5. With Dikgacoi being 29, he brings a great deal of experience, especially in the Championship, to City’s midfield. His direct competition is 26-year-old Gary Medel of Chile, who joined the Bluebirds last season from Sevilla. Dikgacoi might just find his chances of a regular spot and a pivotal role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's midfield a lot higher.

KG’s Championship experience
KG notched up 82 appearances in three seasons with Crystal Palace in the English Championship between 2010 and 2013. With Cardiff dropping back down to the second tier, Dikgacoi’s experience would prove vital for the side’s hopes of returning to the Premier League next season.

KG’s long-term financial plans
Every player considers their financial future before signing a new deal, especially a 29-year-old. With Palace waiting until the last minute to offer the South African a renewal, this shows the club’s doubts in the midfielder’s value and ability. Dikgacoi did mention that Cardiff showed great interest in him, and the approach from Solskjaer was one that stood out. With age not entirely on his side anymore, a player headed for his thirties wants a little more financial and job security. Solskjaer must have reassured him that he was highly rated and valued in the former Man United striker’s managerial plans for City, which ultimately lured Dikgacoi to the Bluebirds.
