Maduka laments Royal AM's missed chances

Royal AM coach John Maduka says it's vital to take your chances against a team of Mamleodi Sundowns' calibre otherwise they will punish you.

Aside from the loss, Royal AM almost overturned the Brazilians three-goal cushion with a late double from Victor Letsoalo but the slow start were their undoing in the grand scheme of things.

“We started slow again, we started slow conceded a goal that we were not supposed to concede and after that we started that’s when we started playing,” Maduka told SuperSport TV.

“When we started playing, we created so many chances in the first half. I think in the first half we were supposed to get something, but unfortunately if you don’t score goals you can’t win matches.

“And you are playing against Sundowns, (where) if you don’t take those opportunities then later on you will regret and that’s exactly it happened like that this afternoon.

“Second half, we started again slow. Conceded goals that were not there, after that we had to push hard from 3-0 not easy because you see they are a good team.

“Sundowns is a good team, what they do is they wait for your mistakes and then they punish you and that’s exactly what happened. I think defensively we didn’t do that,” Maduka continued.

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit returns to their home base over the weekend and tackle Golden Arrows in a provincial derby.
