How Hunt's history affects Chiefs goals

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe has explained why the goals for Gavin Hunt's Amakhosi team have been coming from midfielders and defenders.

Unlike like last season, where the majority of goals came from Samir Nurkovic, the goals have been coming from the likes of Happy Mashiane, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo while defenders Daniel Cardoso and Yagan Sasman have also found the back of the net.

"No you know I think Gavin, that's one of his secrets as a coach," Shongwe tells

"When he signs a player regardless what position that player is playing, except a goalkeeper, he wants a player that is able to defend, create and score. This means he is only signing defenders that are able to score during set-pieces.

"Remember [at SuperSport United] the likes of Morgan Gould, [Ricardo] Katza, Bongani Khumalo, those were defenders but they were scoring. He had a number of goals from his defenders.

"The full-backs must be able to defend and create. And his wingers, you can notice the likes of Daine Klate and Elias Pelembe [at Wits] they were scoring, they were one of the top goalscorers in the team. Yes, a striker will contribute, but he doesn't want the responsibility of scoring to be on one player."
