Coming off a narrow victory over third-tier side Tornado FC in their Nedbank Cup opener on the weekend, Amakhosi are arguably underdogs to the Mother City outfit who have notched up a six-game unbeaten streak.

Ekstein has admitted that given their form, they cannot afford to undermine Benni McCarthy’s charges, who have scored seven goals and conceded none in their last two outings against SuperSport United and Free State Stars.

“Tonight’s game against Cape Town City won’t be easy – they beat SuperSport United 2-0 on the weekend,” noted Ekstein on his club’s official website.

“They play some good football. But we are ready. We will go out to get the three points.”

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a resurgence under new coach Ernst Middendorp – scoring three goals and assisting numerous others – and has pinned it down to one adjustment in his game.

“Previously, I was positioned either on the right or left wing. Coach Ernst Middendorp, however, fields me at 10, in a more central offensive role,” he explained.

“We presently play with two number 10s and that suits me perfectly. I feel happy in that position.”
