Paez to replace suspended Parker?

Parker picked up a fourth booking in the 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday and misses the grudge match against Dan Malesela’s side at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Komphela will be hoping to keep the momentum going and also avenge the 3-1 defeat to the Chilli Boys in the first fixture in Port Elizabeth in December.

That loss in the league is the last time Amakhosi tasted defeat and they have now gone 11 league matches unbeaten.

Venezuelan striker Gustavo Paez, who joined Chiefs during the January transfer window, his fourth goal in all competitions against Celtic and is an obvious option for the coach.

“I don't want to send [Dan] Malesela any message for now. Give him the respect and we just have to prepare and see [against] Chippa on Saturday,” said Komphela.

“But one has to be aware of the fact that Parker has been doing well and ever since the days of Highlands Park, Golden Arrows [both wins in Durban], December, January, February, Parker has been doing very well.

“So it is important as well to preserve the confidence of the players and we shouldn’t be misled by the fact that Paez has scored, scored and scored.

“It’s nice to have a goalscorer and it’s nice to have someone who scores, but then on the other hand, the fact that you got fresh meat today, doesn’t mean that the one you got yesterday has to start, no, you still have to preserve that.

“Parker did well, Paez is doing well and going forward, unfortunately Parker is suspended … we’ll have to look forward and decide how we start.”
