The Italian tactician, who briefly showed his abilities at Free State Stars a few seasons ago, has yet to register a league victory this season and is already being doubted by a faction of Amakhosi fans.

However, McCarthy, who represented the club between 2003 and 2005, has managed to suss out what Solinas is trying to do in order to restore The Glamour Boys’ effectiveness.

The 41-year-old, who is currently obtaining his coaching badges, is filled with optimism and has called for patience as Solinas attempts to instil his tactical principles.

“I can see his intentions. It’s a matter of time before it starts working,” McCarthy told the club’s website.

“We have to understand that the coach wasn’t there during most of pre-season and Chiefs are now playing a lot of games with little time to prepare for specific games.

“I like the philosophy the coach is looking at implementing. He’s trying to play a quick transition game from the back going forward, while he also likes the pressing game.

“Solinas must be given time as I am sure that he will do well.”

Chiefs’ next test comes again former coach Steve Komphela and his high-flying Bloemfontein Celtic outfit, who have yet to be thwarted in their three games this season.
