Mahlambi, signed from Egyptian giants Al Ahly, has been a target for Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane for a few seasons now and the former Bafana Bafana mentor finally got his man before the close of the transfer window.
The ex-Bidvest Wits attacker made an immediate impact on debut, scoring in a 3-3 draw against AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.
Not only is Mahlambi determined to rediscover his best form, he would also love to return to the Bafana Bafana squad.
“That’s a boy who comes from the same development that I came from, the School of Excellence. I think he’s a top player, he’s probably our best young South African player at the moment,” Carelse says.
“Him going to Al Ahly was a sign that he is a quality player. If a team like Al Ahly wants you to come play for them, that tells you a lot about him as a player. Also being in youth international structures has helped, because he has been into Africa playing against the top players.”
He adds: “So he is a top, top signing for Sundowns and I think he is going to do very well for the club.”
