Brooks sets sights on European move

Bafana Bafana starlet Ethan Brooks has set his sights on a move abroad following his meteoric rise with the national team, with a potential destination revealed.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of South Africa's most promising players over the last 18 months after enjoying an impressive debut season in the DStv Premiership with TS Galaxy, which culminated in him starting for Bafana Bafana at the 2021 COSAFA Cup.

Brooks has since remained part of the national team setup under Hugo Broos and has now set his sights on securing a move abroad on the back of his recent performances for both club and country.

"My hope is to continue doing what I am doing and perform at the highest level, and then hopefully, with these performances get the chance to go overseas," Brooks said.

"I'm looking at going to Belgium at the moment and if not Belgium, I'd like to go to Italy or Spain."

The Bafana international also revealed that he would be drawing on the insight of national team coach Broos, who is native to Belgium, ahead of any possible move to Europe in the near future.

"Yes it does," he said when asked if having a Belgian coach helped in respect of ambitions. "It helps me in terms of knowing what it's like over there, the football style and the culture."
