Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has issued a warning to his charges ahead of this evening’s Absa Premiership clash with Chippa United.
Having come off a morale-boosting win over rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in the last 10 days, Chiefs face a tricky test away to Chippa in Port Elizabeth.
That it’s also just under 72 hours before another Soweto Derby, Middendorp has outlined the requirements from his charges as he warns about the pointers he picked up from their game against Sundowns on Sunday.
“It is these kinds of games where you’re required to focus. The games that come in between the hyped-up matches are more critical and demand maximum attention,” Middendorp told his club’s website.
“I saw Chippa United on Sunday playing in the cup game. They were totally different from what I have seen in their previous matches. They gave Sundowns a good run, so we have to be ready for them.”
Chiefs are on a winning run of six consecutive games – something they have not been able to achieve in the last few seasons, but the German is adamant such things mean nothing to him.
“I don’t look at that. My focus is on the now and the preparation for the match against Chippa,” he added.
“The Soweto Derby coming up on the weekend is a big match of course, but we will only deal with that after the Chippa game.
“This is when you have to work on the mindset of the team. We must be responsible and not lose focus.”
