Middendorp reveals Chiefs agreement

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed an agreement made amongst the technical team pertaining to their remaining matches in the Absa Premiership title race.

Middendorp, usually an animated figure on the touchline, has taken a more poised approach of late as witnessed in their recent 1-1 draw with Bidvest Wits in midweek.

The German tactician has explained this this was as a result of a conscious decision taken amongst the technical team, to allow the players more freedom in their remaining games.

He believes more encouragement and support is needed for Amakhosi to go all the way in the championship run-in, rather than scolding his charges for errors during the games.

"We discussed it in the technical team, where we said the expectations are high and we are in a situation where we know we have to fulfil expectations," Middendorp explained to the media, when asked about his perceived new demeanour.

"Let's just be a little bit more relaxed, leave it a little bit more to the players, they know what they have to do, so in certain moments push them a little bit but not too much.

"You have to give them the feeling that what they are doing is right and they will correct it and judge themselves.

"I think that's probably strategically [been decided], in particular now starting with the remaining eight – which is now seven – games.

"That was definitely a clear decision we took to be a bit more calm and supportive in a productive way."
