Middendorp responds to Pitso’s hype

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has broken his silence ahead of Sunday’s clash with Mamelodi Sundowns, while revealing two players that are doubtful.

Chiefs meet Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld at 15h30 this afternoon just two weeks after recording a shock 4-2 victory in the Shell Helix Cup at FNB Stadium.

This has added to the hype for the Absa Premiership encounter, which Pitso Mosimane has relished with a spate of comments relating both to Middendorp and Amakhosi.

But the German has refused to engage in similar tactics, insisting that the match is just another opportunity for three points that will maintain their spot atop the log standings.

“It is hyped up and the opponents have been talking a lot about this match, it is no doubt going to be a tough match for both sides,” Middendorp told his club’s website.

“We are just happy to be part of this highlighted fixture, as hyped as it is, which is good but it’s another match of three points for us.”

Meanwhile, two players are doubtful for this afternoon but have not entirely been ruled out as yet, with Middendorp confident that whoever steps in will be just as effective.

“If [Bernard] Parker and [Kearyn] Baccus don’t make it on time to play a part this afternoon, we have a plan for that. We will have equally capable players who will plug in the positions,” he added.

“The formation and approach will remain constant because every player in the squad is equipped and understands the philosophy. So, we are set and ready.”
