Baroka snap two-game losing run

Premiership

Baroka FC snapped a two-match losing run in the DStv Premiership with a 3-2 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday evening.

Steve Barker pulled on the big guns in pursuit of a victory in Leletu Skelem, Phathutshedzo Nange and a rare outing for Jayden Adams, with Evidence Makgopa leading the line for Baroka.

Stellenbosch controlled the earlier exchanges with Dean Van Rooyen going close with a looping attempt from the byline before Skelem fired in a threatening attempt from out wide.

The visitors began to come alive as the match headed towards the midway stage and forced a save off Lee Langeveldt from a promising free-kick in a promising area.

Matsimela Thoka’s side hit the front six minutes to the break when Makgopa managed to get on the end of a decent move for an equally decent finish.

The hosts threw on a double substitution following the start of the second half, as Asavela Mbekile and Ryan Moon replaced Marc Van Heerden and Nange respectively.

It was two for Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele shortly before the 60th minute period when Makgopa completed his and the side’s second with another smart execution.

The visitors extended their tally when Gerald Phiri Junior capitalised on a good move to finish past Langeveldt in the closing minutes of the match.

Stellies pulled a goal back right at the death through a solid strike from Stanley Dimgba as Bakgaga went to sleep in defence.

A nervy finish was on the cards when Moon converted from the penalty spot following a foul in the area, but it was too little too late as Bakgaga returned to winning ways.
