TTM snap five-game losing run

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila registered their second win of the DStv Premiership season after seeing off Maritzburg United 1-0 on Friday evening.

Clayton Daniels, Nazeer Allie, Bandile Shandu, Daylon Claasen and Travis Graham set out Maritzburg’s changes, with Farai Madhanaga giving his debut by Tshakhuma.

It was the host who made the promising start when a snap-shot from an acute angle by Thabiso Kutumela deflected away en-route to shaving the near corner.

Maritzburg continued to find openings following the closing period, as Shandu forced goalkeeper Washington Arubi into a low save with a rasping shot from a one-two outside the area.

The Team of Choice were unfortunate not to go ahead with a curling strike from Kutumela cracking the crossbar five minutes to halftime before Arubi smothered the follow-up from the goal-line.

And against the run of play, Tshakhuma broke the deadlock when Thabo Mnyamane arrowed a pin-point left-footed free-kick into the top corner to bring the first half to an end.

Maritzburg introduced three substitutions after halftime in Jose Ali Meza, Phiwayinkosi Zuma and Riyaaz Ismail.

The Team of Choice should’ve pulled level with a snap-shot from the near post of the area moments from the restart by Kutumela following a cutback, but it went wide.

The chances didn’t stop coming Tshakhuma’s way as fulltime neared, as Thembisani Nevhulamba dragged an inviting delivery from the left around the near corner of the net.

Maritzburg should’ve levelled in the last 12 minutes from a ball through the middle of the park, but Sibusiso Hlubi scooped over.

Vhadau vhadamani targeted a second before fulltime, with Maritzburg continuing their search for an equaliser but the visitors held their nerve to claim their second win of the season.
