Chiefs back on the winning trail

Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a 3-1 triumph over Chippa United on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi head coach Stuart Baxter rotated the side that lost to Golden Arrows, as shot-stopper Brandon Peterson returned from injury, while Eric Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso dropped out of the side with Siyabonga Ngezana and Ramahlwe Mphahlele coming into the side.

Chippa gave Chiefs a scare in the tenth minute after Bienvenu Eva Nga reacted the quickest to a cross by Azola Matrose in the box with a first-time shot that came off the bottom post.

Samir Nurkovic should have given them the lead six minutes later after a cross by Khama Billiat found him unmarked at the back post but his first-time strike missed the gaping net just wide.

However, Nurkovic's persistence paid off in the 23rd minute after he broke the deadlock for the visitors with a first-time shot at the near post after another low cross by Billiat.

Kurt Lentjies' troops were threatening to get back into the game after the half-hour mark and Matrose came close to levelling matters on the stroke of halftime with a diagonal shot that flashed past the far post after he went through on goal.

Chippa had a perfect start in the second stanza as Eva Nga found the equaliser within a minute from the restart after going clear on goal from Tebogo Makobela's defence-splitting pass and fired a low strike past Petersen.

The Chilli Boys dropped deep in their own half after the hour-mark and frustrated Amakhosi who could not create clear chances, which forced Baxter to introduce Dolly 20 minutes before time in place of Parker.

Dolly made an immediate impact, as he restored the lead for Chiefs five minutes later with a curling strike into the top corner from a set-piece routine with Billiat on the edge of the box.

Amakhosi remained on the front foot and Cole Alexander put the game to bed in the last minute with a lovely first-time finish at the near post after he was slid through on goal by Njabulo Blom.
