Buckley wants more M'burg aggression

Maritzburg United caretaker coach Delron Buckley says he knows what to do to prepare the players to be ready against SuperSport United on Friday night.

Buckley has been handed the reins on a temporary basis after the Team of Choice parted ways with head coach Eric Tinkler on Monday.

It is believed the players are still confused and sad to lose Tinkler but Buckley, who will handle team affairs until Ernst Middendorp arrives, says he knows how to deal with players.

"That's a normal situation when a coach goes and players start thinking about what's going to happen," Buckley told the media.

"Now as a caretaker coach I need to boost morale, get them motivated and to prepare themselves for Friday."

With Maritzburg yet to win this season after four games, the former Bafana Bafana midfielder says it is now up to the players to make sure they get out of that situation.

"To be honest, it's up to the players you know, they've got to take the situation into their hands, it's do-or-die for them," he said.

"The minute they put a foot on the pitch they must realise that, 'Yeah, we are going to win or be aggressive and play ugly if we have to, to get results."

Buckley believes he can formulate a plan to stop Mastatsantsa from doing what four teams have already done to the KwaZulu-Natal side.

"Very good team [we are facing in SuperSport], they are tactical and strong," he added. "I know their strongest point is in the midfield, which we have to close down, because if they don't play in the midfield they don't function."
