Davids reacts to formidable Sundowns

Co-coach Fadlu Davids reacted to his Orlando Pirates side's comprehensive defeat while pointing out a key aspect for Mamelodi Sundowns' success.

The Brazilians scored four second-half goals as striker Pavol Safranko grabbed a brace with Fortune Makaringe grabbing a stoppage-time consolation for Pirates.

Speaking after the final whistle, Davids detailed the difference between the two sides after a huge gulf in class.

"I don't think we need to look into the amount of points Sundowns are ahead," Davids said post-match.

"We just need to try to win every game that we play and try to keep progressing the team in terms of our own development as a team.

"We know it's a process since we took over and we've got to build the team step-by-step while not looking too far to the distance between the two sides.

"We just need to look towards the next game and every game is possible that we can win and that's what we'll aim for.

"This Sundowns side has been built over a number of years and you can see the continuity from coach Pitso's time.

"There's just continuity in every transfer window where they were able to strengthen with seven or eight players from each team.

"So that's the continuity that they have, but we can't look too far to the other teams and have to look internally at ourselves into how we can improve.

"We need to identify our short-term and long-term plans for the future in how we can fulfil our potential."
