Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has expressed his sadness at losing a close friend who was released by the club.

Lorenzo Gordinho recently cut ties with Amakhosi to join Bidvest Wits because he was struggling to get game-time for the past two seasons and no longer in the coach's plans.

After moving to Bloemfontein Celtic on loan he was called back but still did not manage to regain his place in the team, with Ernst Middendorp preferring to let him go.

A disappointed Cardoso admits that Godinho needed a change of club to revive his career and believes under the experienced Gavin Hunt, he will do that at Wits.

"I'm sad to see him leaving the club. He is a good, young player. Unfortunately he didn’t get game-time. He has been part of the Chiefs setup for eight years," Cardoso said.

"I think maybe change is always good. Gavin Hunt is a good coach and he will know how to use him."

The two have been friends for years and the Chiefs defender who remains at Naturena says their relationship is beyond football, and they will stay close forever.

"I wish him all the best. He is my friend. We were friends before football and we will remain friends forever."
