Chiefs player earning contract extension

Kaizer Chiefs could be set to extend the contract of one of their players following his impressive showings with the club this season.

Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi joined Amakhosi in January this year from Chippa United on a 17-month contract but will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club in December this year.

Akpeyi has confirmed his short-term contract with Amakhosi but no decision has yet been taken on whether the club will extend it for a longer period.

However, considering the long-term injury to Itumeleng Khune, Chiefs are believed to be preparing a new long-term contract to keep the 33-year-old at Naturena beyond the end of the season.

"I am settling in gradually and I should say it's unfortunate that I might decide if I am staying or leaving because my contract is short," Akpeyi tells

"I am settling in and so I don't know if probably I will have more chance to stabilise [my position in the team] or probably would be another thing if the team is making another choice."
