Serero scores against Mokotjo

Premiership

Serero, who was booted out of the national camp last week after being accused of faking an injury, played the full 90 minutes on Saturday, as did his compatriot Mokotjo.

Serero, the 2010/11 PSL Footballer of the Season, netted a 72nd minute opener at the Amsterdam Arena.

Maikel van der Werff added an own goal four minutes later, with Gioannis Gravenbeek bagging a late consolation for the visitors.

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund axed Serero from his squad on the eve of a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Botswana on September 7.

After the match, Igesund, with the support of Bafana's medical team, claimed Serero feigned the severity of a sore muscle in an effort to avoid selection, so as not to risk an injury and jeopardise his club career.

Serero, whose progress in Europe has been hampered by fitness set-backs, has disputed Igesund's position, insisting he was genuinely carrying a knock at the time.
