Cole impressed with Di Maria

Di Maria has netted thrice since his British record £59.7 million-move from Real Madrid in August, most recently scoring in the 2-1 defeat of Everton on Sunday.

"The only person I've seen come to Manchester United and make such a good start was Dwight Yorke," Cole told United's official website. "I think he scored two goals on his home debut and another goal in the game after that.

"He [Di Maria] has played so well and given a little bit of spark. It's what you always want when you come for that kind of money, everyone is expecting something special and he's done just that."

The 43-year-old, who claimed 93 goals in 195 outings for the Red Devils, added: "I think when you come to a football club like Manchester United, there is always going to be pressure but he has played for another massive club in Real Madrid.

"He is used to having the cameras always on him, you might say having the microscope on him but, the way he has started at United, he won't have a problem as he is clearly a quality player."

Yorke ignited his career at Old Trafford by netting 22 times during the English giants' treble triumph in 1999/2000. In total the 42-year-old scored 48 goals in 96 appearances in a four-year spell under Sir Alex Ferguson.
