Clayton Daniels to fulfil dual role at Maritzburg


Clayton Daniels might double up as a player and an assistant coach at Maritzburg United next season.

According to reports in the media former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has been given a boot by the KwaZulu-Natal club.

This publication understands the Team Of Choice is planning to promote "Hare" to the assistant coach position, but Daniels who turns 38 on July 10, 2022, feels he is still good enough to contribute inside the field of play.

The experienced campaigner who has won four trophies so far in his professional career featured 17 times in all competitions and even contributed one goal in the 2021/22 Dstv Premiership season.

"We will wait and see my man, we just enjoying the holiday now," Daniels tells KickOff.

"Yes, I'm aware my name is on the list of players who are leaving.

"Yes, the club said they will contact me once they sort out the technical and board meetings that they'll have then they'll get back to me.

"It might be this week so I will just wait for the chairman to get back to me.

"Yes, the matter is I'm going to become a player-coach, that's what they told me.

"They told me I'm going to be the second assistant at the club, and also might be playing a few games when needed.

"If it does happen yes I will be happy as it will prepare me for the next step."
