Can City stop Tau and Co?

He was, after all, a deadly striker himself during his playing days, so he would have been aware that opposition defenders would come up with plans on how to stop him.

As City prepare to take on Mamelodi Sundowns in their final Absa Premiership match of 2017 tonight, McCarthy’s men have to keep a close eye on a man who is in red hot form at the moment – Percy Tau.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said his mission is to make Tau the footballer of the year and so far they are on track.

Tau is on six league goals at the moment, just two behind top scorer Rodney Ramagalela and he’d be looking to get closer to the top of the charts before the year comes to an end. The Bafana Bafana forward goes into the game against McCarthy’s inconsistent City side with four goals in his last four matches.

Not only does Tau offer goals, but he has contributed six assists as well. He combines well with the likes of Themba Zwane and Sibusiso Vilakazi in attack. He’s got quick feet, an eye for a good pass and the ability to create space for teammates in the box with his movement. What PSL defenders should be worried about is that Tau just keeps getting better with every game he plays.

Another problem for City is trying to contain Zwane, who has four goals and two assists this season. He is contributing with more goals these days, which only benefits Sundowns.

Sundowns have scored 10 goals in their last four matches, which means City are in for a long night.

The seven-time league champions have an opportunity to go nine points clear at the top of the table. It would be difficult for anyone to catch them if they win tonight.
