CT City bring new coach to PSL

Cape Town City have announced the arrival of a new coach in the PSL as a replacement for Benni McCarthy.

City have roped in Dutch coach Jan Olde Riekerink, who has previously worked at Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, Turkish giants Galatasaray and most recently with Eredivisie side Heerenveen.

The 56-year-old earns his maiden venture in Africa after spending the last two decades coaching across Europe and Asia, with China's under-17 and under-19 sides.

Riederink was sacked from Heerenveen in April, with five games left of the campaign, and managed 12 victories, 12 defeats and eight draws in 32 games across all competitions.

He comes in to replace McCarthy, who managed just two victories in his last 18 games stretching back to last season, and finds The Citizens in 13th position on the Absa Premiership table.

The new coach will get a close look at his charges as they face Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium this evening but is unlikely to feature on the bench as he awaits his work permit. Assistant coach Vasili Manousakis is set to lead the team momentarily.
