Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis says it was very important for the club to hold end of season awards, to reward the players after the good season they had.
Bafana Bafana defender Thamsanqa Mkhize was crowned both the Citizens’ player and players’ player on Monday night, while gifted winger Gift Links was named the most improved player of the season.
City won the MTN 8 – the second major trophy in the club’s existence – and finished fourth in the Absa Premiership.
"It's always good to have a good function like that at the end of a good season," Comitis tells KickOff.com.
"So I'm very happy things went very well and we finished the season on a good positive note you know. Ja look, rookie of the year was Zuki Kewuti, Gift Links was most improved player, player's player of the year was Thami Mkhize, and he was also player of the year, so those were the four awards.
"Of course they are going to get prize money, but to me the most important is the recognition and rewarding them for their efforts and excellence."
