Celtic players receive salaries

Coach Komphela's charges refused to train last week before their game with Maritzburg United - which they lost 1-0 on Sunday - due to the long-standing payment issues they face at the cash-strapped club.

A few of the players, speaking on condition of anonymity, on Friday confirmed their salaries were paid, although money is still outstanding to certain individuals.

"We got paid today," said one of the players.

"I know of some players who got their salaries today. I am not sure about others.

"There is still outstanding monies, including signing-on fees, that are still owed to us.

"We hope when the new owners come they will sort that out," he added, referring to reports the topflight team will be sold.

KickOff.com was unable to get hold of Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco throughout the week.

Despite Phunya Sele Sele's financial woes, the Free State outfit are fourth on the standings with 13 points from six games - a point behind leaders Orlando Pirates with two matches in hand.
