Celtic minus Jelusic for Downs

Premiership

Jelusic has flown back to his native Serbia to renew his UEFA A coaching licence and John Maduka and Lehlohonolo Seema have temporarily been handed the reins, according to Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco.

“It is the policy of UEFA for coaches to renew their licences at a certain period of time,” Konco explained on the club's website.

“Veselin’s certificate is due for renewal and unfortunately he had to leave at this critical stage. The positive thing is that his mentorship has allowed his assistants to learn through proper guidance and I can guarantee that his absence won’t entirely affect the team.

“Yes, his leadership and presence are paramount, but again, we have two phenomenal coaches in both John Maduka and Lehlohonolo Seema.”

Jelusic, the Absa Premiership Coach of the Month for October, will be back for Phunya Sele Sele's last match of 2017 against SuperSport United at Dr Molemela Stadium on December 20.

The Telkom Knockout finalists are fourth on the table with 19 points from 12 games, having thumped derby rivals Free State Stars 3-0 in their previous outing.
