Motupa backs himself for big PSL award

Motupa joined the Clever Boys at the start of the current season and has played a key role in the side’s battle for the Absa Premiership title, scoring nine goals in 18 appearances for Gavin Hunt's side.

The 24-year-old is just three goals behind top scorer Mwape Musonda of Black Leopards and he'll be pushing to get his hands on the Golden Boot award, as well as the Footballer of the Season accolade.

The likes of Thembinkosi Lorch, Lebohang Maboe and Gaston Sirino are seen as some of the favourites for the big award and Motupa feels he is right up there with the best.

"Yes, so far I would say I agree [that he'd be a contender for the award] because I am doing well for my club. I believe if I can offer more than what I have offered, then I still have an opportunity to win Player of the Season," Motupa said.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder missed three consecutive matches between December and January and admits that there are areas of his game he needed to work on.

"At that time the coach told me that there are a few things I still need to work on and we did work on them. That's why I came back and I was scoring goals. There was some preparation we were doing, me and the coach, and other players helped me to understand things because I was new to the team."
