Parker questions players’ priorities

Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker has raised questions as to whether the new players coming into the club have their priorities straight.

Amakhosi have recorded one of their worst season’s in the club’s history, not only on the back of a horrendous league finish but also in having recorded their worst statistics in recent years.

The club have come under major scrutiny for several years, rising from their ongoing trophy drought since 2014/15, yet they have been unable to identify the major stumbling block.

But Parker has come up with one suggestion in particular, hinting at the possibility that players coming into the club during this difficult time may have their priories skewed towards the trivial things associated with being at a big club like Chiefs.

“Being one of the senior players, I’ve seen it all regarding what football is like and what could happen in football, I’ve won and helped the club break records,” said Parker.

“And now we’re in this situation where we’ve had a big blow in the club’s history, and yes there have been a lot of changes in personnel, players and coaches, but we just don’t seem to find the right momentum.

“Right throughout, we’ve seen what we can do and what we’re capable of, and in some matches either we get a different team with a different performance and a different result, yet it’s the same players.

“I think players need to start realising more what’s important at the club, and then just focus on that and work on it, keeping in mind the culture that has been set here.

“Us senior players are thriving on that know-how of being at this club. We can get it right, it’s just for us to see how we’ll do it, in spite of what has happened. But this happens in world football, at big clubs on the big stages, and it’s just about how you bounce back.

“So, what we need to do is find a solution as to how we’re going to bounce back and get Kaizer Chiefs back to where it needs to be.”
