Morena has previously been overlooked for the Bafana setup despite some influential displays for The Brazilians as they went on to lift the Absa Premiership trophy last season.
The 25-year-old was left out in favour of Reeve Frosler and Ramahlwe Mphahlele for the Four Nations friendly tournament in Zambia in March, with Baxter explaining that Frosler was a more worthy investment due to his age while Mphahlele offered more experience.
This time, the former Bloemfontein Celtic attacker has been given the nod for the first time by the Briton, who has since indicated how he could utilise the right fullback in the upcoming back-to-back 2019 AFCON qualifiers against The Pirates.
“My concern with Thapelo is that Sundowns are a dominant force and therefore they play most of their games on the front foot, and some of the games I’ve considered Thapelo for are ones that we wouldn’t have been on the front foot as much as were expected to be in this game,” said Baxter.
“Therefore he gives me the option of playing on the front foot and having him working more in the opponents' half than, for example, being pinned back by a Sadio Mane and having him to defend around our own box.
“I think this game will suit him and that’s the reason I’ve included him in the squad. He gives me that option [to cause more attacking threat].”
