South Africa remain top of Group A of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with eight points, one ahead of second-placed Congo.

Mashaba reflects: “It was a tough game as we expected. They came with a game plan and their game was not to lose. They would have been happy to settle for a draw. Those who saw our first game against them, they are a different lot altogether. They were only attacking with three or four players at the most to show that they were just here to defend.

“They did frustrate us here and there, though we did have chances to score goals but we couldn’t… They defended with five people and we didn’t want to fall into their trap by sending many players upfront and get caught on counters.”

Despite the draw, Mashaba is adamant his charges are still on track with two matches to play – at home against Sudan and away to Nigeria next month.

“We are still on course, our boys are doing well and I don’t think there is anything that can make us press panic buttons,” Mashaba concludes.
