Shakes buoyed by rankings jump

READ: Bafana jump 10 spots

South Africa have jumped 10 places to 57th globally following their strong run in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mashaba's men head Group A with eight points from four matches - a point ahead of Congo, four in front of Nigeria and five richer than bottom-placed Sudan.

Mashaba said: “This is good news. It shows we are doing something right especially in such a short space of time. It is still early days though, there is a lot of work to be done and hopefully we will get even higher on the rankings.

“But I am happy there are some huge improvements. Now the challenge is to maintain the position and even better it," added 'Shakes', who succeeded Gordon Igesund in the Bafana hotseat on 1 September.

Bafana have improved two spots to 12th in Africa, with Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Cape Verde Islands, Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria and Togo completing the top 10.
