Patosi scores in Europa League

Patosi, who has been in good form since making a comeback from well-documented off-field issued, netted early on to give his side the lead.

It is his third goal in as many games and, just as crucially, his third start in the last three matches, suggesting his fitness problems are now a thing of the past.

This is not Patosi’s first season of European football, he played in the same competition in 2012/13 when Lokeren failed to make the pool stages.

The draw does still leave Lokeren with plenty of work to do in their pool, they trail second-placed Trabzonspor by three points with two rounds of games to go, but also have an inferior goal-difference.

One player far more likely to feature in the knockout stages is Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar, who was an unused substitute as his side thumped French outfit Lille 3-0 at home.

The win leaves The Toffees top of their pool and needing just a point from their last two games, away at Wolfsburg and home to Rubin Krasnodar, to qualify.

Bongani Khumalo’s Tottenham Hotspur were also 2-1 winners at Greek side Asteras Tripolis. They top their pool on goal-difference, four points ahead of the Greeks in third.
