Gcaba offers advice to on-form Sam

Orlando Pirates' on-form young left-back Bongani Sam has been given advice by Ayanda Gcaba on how to deal with the upcoming Soweto Derby.

The 23-year-old has grabbed his opportunities with both hands this season and produced another good performance against TS Galaxy on Tuesday night.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic defender joined the Buccaneers in 2019 and has been dealing with injuries that affected him throughout last season.

But he now seems to be gaining momentum after winning his first man-of-the-match award in the black and white colours.

With his current form, Sam is likely to face Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday in the Soweto Derby and former Pirates defender Gcaba has shared a few words of advice on how to deal with the pressure.

"Bongani is doing well since he came back and even against TS Galaxy he got man of the match, that means he’s working hard and on the right track," Gcaba tells KickOff.com.

"Knowing the Soweto Derby, it's not like any other game. As a player you have to bring your A game on the day and it's more mental than anything, so Sam must be prepared for that."

With both teams not doing too well Gcaba is hesitant to give a prediction, but wishes former side the best.

"It will be more tactical," he says. "I don't expect an open game but as a Buccaneer, I wish them the best."
