Menzo: Any Sundowns result will do

Premiership

The Urban Warriors racked up their first win of 2017 against Absa Premiership strugglers Highlands Park last Wednesday, before playing to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows at the weekend to open a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Their win over the Lions of North could prove a turning point for Ajax, said coach Menzo earlier this week, and he reiterated his confidence that the Mother City outfit could still produce a strong run-in to the season.

Next up for Ajax is the tough trip to Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday to face defending league champions Sundowns, where Menzo admits he is not expecting too much in the way of a win, preferring instead to bank on the three points in their following game at home against Dikwena, on April 30.

“Of course, if I look back there are two moments that come to mind: against Free State Stars we were leading 2-1 and it was a pity that we didn’t win that game,” Menzo said on Ajax’s official website.

“But I think the most crucial game in that whole period was the match against Highlands Park – a match we had to win and we did that, a little bit lucky we have to be honest, but it is how it is, yes we have gained some points but wins are still important to us – we have another tough game coming up [against Sundowns].

“A result there would be good, but we have to get three points in our next home match [against Platinum Stars],” Menzo continued.
