Stars squeeze past Highlands

Struggling Stars almost went behind as early as the opening minute when Lindokuhle Mbatha’s shot from out wide narrowly flashed across goal.

After struggling early on, Stars made a few promising forays forward but the wet playing surface made it difficult for them to get any penetration.

The wet surface and severe raining made it difficult for both teams to get a grip on the ball and launch attacks.

Due to bad light, the game was called off for a few minutes and resumed later on after the weather conditions subsided.

Missing striker Judas Moseamedi, Ea Lla Koto lacked the necessary killer touch to cause havoc for their adversaries.

With the overcast conditions still subsiding over the venue, both sides found it difficult to get a grip on the clash.

Stars found the deadlock with 20 minutes to go through Tshepho Tema after poor defending from the away side.

Highlands looked for a way back through a string of corner kicks, but solid defending from the hosts kept them out.

Stars ended the contest with a man short after Nyiko Mobbie saw red for a foul on Mbatha 10 minutes to the end of the game.

The Lions of the North failed to make use of the added advantage and suffered their first defeat of the season as Stars move off the bottom three.
