Baxter hoping to suprise Sundowns

United host the Brazilians in what is expected to be a thrilling affair at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, with Downs leading the PSL charge with a number of fine performances of late while Matsatsantsa have shown great improvement since the arrival of Baxter.

The Englishman, who lead Kaizer Chiefs to two League trophies in his tenure in charge of the Soweto giants, is all too familiar with the nature of big derby match-ups.

"I have been in charge in lots of derbies, and I know what it means to the supporters," Baxter said. "It’s about bragging rights, and it’s about points on the table. I know the special things that go with it.

“Sundowns have big a reputation; they have  great record going into this game,” he continued. "I have only been here for a short time, and I am hoping that the things spoken about in that short time can be taken on board, and we can continue with our progress.”

Although Downs are the favourites for Tuesday’s clash, Baxter is hoping his team can pull a big surprise on the day.

"On the day, derbies have a habit of throwing surprise results and to do that you have to play,” he said. “You can’t come and freeze - you have to come and play, so I am hoping for that little surprise.”

Kick-off is set for 19:30.
