Singh was rewarded with a five-year deal at Portuguese Primeira Liga club Braga, after impressing with the club's B-team this past season, in which he managed 11 goals and four assists.
The 20-year-old ex-junior international, who has been called up to Bafana for the ongoing COSAFA Cup in Polokwane, said his elevation to the first team was a pleasant surprise.
“It’s been coming. I’ve trained and travelled with the first team many times for games, but I’ve played in the B-team for the whole season,” Singh told SAFA Media at the current camp.
“So, it was just a matter of being patient, working hard every day in training and games and proving myself so I can play in the A-team.
“But I knew it would come, I wasn’t sure it would come so soon but I’m happy it came and I will take this opportunity with both hands.”
The Noordgesig-born Stars of Africa academy graduate believes his step-up will present valuable opportunities for growth, as he looks to embrace the full European experience.
“I think my game will grow a lot because it’s a different level. The first team will be playing in Europa League, and as a player, it’s always been a dream of mine to play in one of the big competitions. Here I have the opportunity right in front of me,” he added.
“So, as an individual, with a good group in the team, I just have to learn from them and fit in well, and good things will come my way.”
Singh will be looking to impress coach Stuart Baxter when Bafana take on Madagascar in their opening COSAFA Cup clash on Sunday afternoon (15h00).
