Links was named in coach Stuart Baxter’s 34-man preliminary squad three weeks ago, following his impressive showing with Egyptian side Al Assiouty this past season.
The 19-year-old, who completed his switch from Platinum Stars in January, was previously part of the setup when he was invited to the camp during last year’s tournament in Rustenburg.
This time around, the Phokeng-born winger has high hopes with the national team, should he make the trimmed down squad of 20, which was initially set to be confirmed by May 17.
“I’m very happy to have been called up to the provisional squad. When they said they would announce the squad, I just went through the internet and saw my name – I was very happy,” Links tells KickOff.com.
“At first I missed out on the call-up to the youth national team, but now I feel this could be an opportunity for me to play for the national team.
“If I get the opportunity to play at the COSAFA, I will grab it with both hands and make sure that I take my chance and use it.”
SAFA communications manager Dominic Chimhavi on Monday morning told this website that the squad was being finalised by Baxter, and an announcement would be made shortly.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on May 27 and run until June 9, while Bafana will only enter the knockout stage on June 2.
