According to the list of players obtained by KickOff.com, AmaZulu goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje, the Supersport United duo of Davies Nkausu and Noah Chivuta, and Given Singuluma of newly promoted PSL outfit Bay United, have been included in the squad.
First choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars has not been called for the tournament as Zambian coach Herve Renard wants to give a chance to every player to prove their worth.
Renard has also recalled clubless defenders Billy Mwanza and Chintu Kampamba, formerly of Golden Arrows and Free State Stars , respectively, whose contracts are unlikely to be renewed by the two sides.
Another player called to camp is former Free State Stars defender Clive Hachilensa who on the books of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Super league defending champions ZESCO United though the player is yet to see any action this season.
Also back in the team is former Plantinum Stars striker Francis Kombe who was banned for failing a doping test while in South Africa in 2004 and is the current league’s leading goal scorer in Zambia with eight goals.
Zambia will face Zimbabwe on July 27 in the quarterfinals of this years' new look Cosafa Senior Challenge.
The Chipolopolo Boys went into camp yesterday with assistant coach George Lwandamina at the helm of the training sessions in the absence of the 39-year-old Renard who is away on a short break in France. Renard will join the team on July 20.
FAZ media officer Erick Mwanza discloses that Emmanuel Mayuka will not be drafted into the senior team due to a trial obligation at FC Porto in Portugal.
“Mayuka leaves for Porto on July 15 and we have decided not to name him to the team because we are not sure how long he will be there and whether he will join them on a pre-season training camp,” said Mwanza.
“The Kabwe Warriors’ striker is currently away with the Zambia Under-20 team en route back home after playing Mauritius yesterday in a CAF 2009 Africa Youth Championship first-round return leg qualifier. Mayuka has been left out of the team for the same reason that Stophira Sunzu and Roger Kola were left.”
Midfielder Sunzu is currently away in France attending trails at Ligue Two side Chateauroux while the striker is set to begin a six-month deal with Russian side Spartak Moscow.
Meanwhile, Zambia entered camp yesterday in Lusaka to begin preparations for their COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup outing.
