Wenger tips Ivory Coast to lift Afcon trophy

The Gunners’ boss, in wishing his Ivorian players Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue all the best, said: “Ivory Coast is a very strong side, so I expect them to come back after February 10 with the trophy.

“You want players to be happy and if they have a good African Cup then they will be. We can benefit from that, so let’s wish them well.”

The Elephants will play alongside Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Mali’s Eagles and Squirrels of Benin Republic in Group B of the tournament.

The French tactician however, said that there will be no panic over the loss of players who leave for the African championship this month.

“We’ve known about this since the start of the season and I’m confident we can come out of it in a strong position

“I’m confident that the players who come in as replacements are strong enough and have enough experience to make sure we don’t pay with points. Toure is a real rock, consistently motivated, consistently up for it. He is highly focused every day and in every game.”
