Warriors’ coach still unpaid

Valinhos’ contract, which expires next month, has an option of renewal, but the source told KickOff.com that the coach was still undecided on whether to go for that option or resign.

“He has not been paid since May and several attempts to seek audience with the football authorities have proved fruitless, as he keeps being sent from pillar to post and that has disappointed him.

“He has not made up his mind yet, but I doubt that he will continue working in this kind of environment,” revealed the source.

A Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) official also confirmed that the coach has not been paid for close to six months now, but absolved the association of any wrong doing.

“His salary is supposed to be paid by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA). We do not know what has held them up for so long. As Zifa, we are also yet to decide on whether his contract should be renewed at its expiry,” said the official.

ZTA Chief Executive Officer, Karikoga Kaseke, could not be reached for comment, but the tourism authority might be disappointed with Zimbabwe’s failed bid to qualify for both the 2010 Africa Nations and World Cup, as their offer to pay the coach’s salary was premised on the hope that Zimbabwe’s tourism industry would get a boost if the Warriors qualified.
