Mere top of the list of ever-presents

Veteran defender Vuyo Mere headlines a list of just six players that have been ever-present for their clubs this season as Swallows FC continue to shine.

Mere, who turns 37 next month, has played every minute for Swallows at right-back continuing with the same energy that has always defined his game since he made his PSL debut way back in August 2001 at Hellenic.

From the 14 league games that Swallows have played to date they remain unbeaten, by far the best run by a promoted team.

Unheralded centre-back Njabulo Ngcobo has also put in a full shift at Swallows. Ngcobo was signed from Uthongathi last year and hasn’t put a foot wrong for The Birds playing with maturity even though his experience at this level is thin.

Another big achiever is Sifiso Mlungwana, who has jumped the queue at Golden Arrows ahead of international goalkeepers to play in all 13 games ofr Abafana Bes’thende so far. Mlungwana, 23, was promoted from the club’s reserve team last season.

SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams continues to stamp his authority, playing every match for the club.

This past weekend he played game number 100 in a row in domestic competitions and hasn't missed a single game over the last two seasons as well. Williams has made 17 appearances this season.

Down in the Western Cape the duo of Peter Leeuwenburgh and Alan Robertson have also been ever-present for Cape Town City and Stellenbosch respectively.

Leeuwenburg has played every minute of all 15 for City while Robertson has featured in all 14 at centre-back for the Cape Winelands club.
