Vasco ready for play-offs

Since then, the club changed ownership with the promoted side having continued as FC Cape Town in the National First Division, while Das Neves returned to his Portuguese roots to coach Vasco da Gama in the regional Vodacom League.

Speaking ahead of the 2007/2008 Vodacom League National Playoffs which will be held in Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp next week, Das Neves said that his club won 24 of their 30 matches on the way to winning the Western Cape Vodacom League but will produce a guarded approach at the play-offs.

“Midfielder Theo Hempe has a wealth of experience having spent many seasons in the PSL, while Leonard Casner made his mark playing for Wits, and along with the likes of Gavin Lendis, who is a former SA athletics high jump record-holder, and Anthony Moniz, should keep us in the hunt for goals,” said Das Neves, who along with his brothers, Mario and Paulo, played for Cape Town PSL sides Hellenic and Cape Town Spurs in the 1980s and 1990s.

“The Western Cape Vodacom League season was a tough one with sides like Mr Price Parkhurst and Baltic Rangers having given us a good run, but we are really looking forward to putting up a good showing at the playoffs.”
