Tsengwa denies Swallows a victory

The match was delayed for an hour as the players left the field on 23 minutes due to heavy rain, but the stalemate was largely thanks to superb goalkeeping by TRZ keeper Mandlenkosi Tsengwa, who made a number of outstanding saves to deny Swallows victory.

The first 23 minutes before the break was uneventful, but after the rain both teams seemed much livelier. Swallows striker Sandile Ndlovu almost opened the scoring two minutes after the restart when he headed a Cecil Oerson cross home, only for Tsengwa to deny him.

10 minutes later Swallows defender Bevan Fransman's free-kick from 30-metres out brought out another fine save from Tsengwa.

Thanda fought back, but hardly got close to testing Nigeria international keeper Etafia as Fransman and company gave them little space to shoot. Ryan Botha's free-kick from the edge of the area was the best scoring chance for the visitors, but his effort flew straight into the arms of Etafia.

The half ended 0-0.

Both teams were industrious and pressed hard for a goal, but neither could fashion clear chances, and when Swallows did Tsengwa warded them off.

The keeper denied Zambia striker James Chamanga a goal in the 72nd minute, but three minutes later Mark Haskins beat him with a shot that thundered off the upright.

The partisan home crowd urged their team on, but the players could just not respond to their call and with Tsengwa in fine form between the poles their task was just impossible.

Alton Meiring, who came on for Ndlovu with 15 minutes remaining, was lively upfront and also had a decent effort at goal, but again Tsengwa was present to avert a likely goal.

Swallows are in 7th place with 32 points while TRZ have 21 and are in 14th place.
