Thanda sign new deal with Italian firm

Lotto replaces last season’s technical suppliers, Puma.

Team manager Thabani Gumede says their new technical sponsors will be supplying them with the kit from overseas.

“We have signed a two-year deal with Lotto,” reveals Gumede.

“Last season we had Puma as our kit suppliers, but we didn’t agree on terms for the new season after the initial contract expired. So for the next two years our kit will be provided by Lotto and already we have received some of the stuff from them,” says Gumede.

The Durban-based club used the Lotto branded kit in their season opening league match against Kaizer Chiefs which they won 2-1 at Loftus on Saturday.

The Italian supplier is famous in South Africa as no team has ever been sponsored by them although they are said to be a world renowned apparel company.

Brazilian defender Cafu and Italian striker Luca Toni are some of the more famous players who have personal deals with the company, while clubs sponsored include Real Zaragoza, Fiorentina and the Columbian national team.

Bafana Bafana pair of Tshepo Masilela and Terror Fanteni’s Israeli club Maccabi Haifa is also sponsored by Lotto.

Santos has been the other PSL club that has parted ways with Puma this season as they are now sponsored by New Zealand manufacturers Canterbury, while neighbours Ajax Cape Town have switched from Puma to Adidas.
