SuperSport have failed to register a win in their last five matches, having last tasted victory on November 29 when they edged Ajax Cape Town 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium.
Tinkler admits his players struggled for motivation after their CAF Confederation Cup final defeat to TP Mazembe.
“The break is massively important for us and the players to switch back on when we come back because right now I think we've switched off,” Tinkler said.
“I think immediately after the CAF Confederation Cup final loss they switched off and I think it is important for us to get this little break to regroup.”
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder says next month's schedule is “insane” but they have no choice but to adapt when they kick off 2018 against Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium on January 6.
“When we come back in January we are expected to play eight fixtures, it's madness and insane. It doesn’t make sense. That's the harsh reality we face.
“We just have to accept it and move on but it is a massive ask. Right now, the team really need to regroup and we don't have many days.
“There is no time to try and rectify the mistakes because there is no time in between the games. All you can do is talk about the errors and hope they rectify.”
