News

Scottish outfit Aberdeen was given a lesson in European soccer by their Greek opponents Panathinaikos in a Group B encounter.

Morris’ team ran riot, scoring three goals without reply and the Bafana Bafana defender, who was as sturdy as a rock at the back, played the entire match.

This result in Athens also means that a Scottish club has yet to win on Greek soil.

The Greeks lead the table with Atletico Madrid, Lokomotiv Moscow and FC Copenhagen well down.

In Group A, Everton also moved to the top of their log after recording a great 3-1 home win again Larrisa, the same Greek team that knocked Benni McCarthy’s Blackburn out of the competition.

The English Premiership side scored in the 14th, 50th and 85th minutes, with Pienaar and Leighton Baines combining well down the left for the second.

More than 33 000 fans watched this entertaining match and the Bafana attacking midfielder was replaced just before the final whistle.

The other teams in this group are AZ, Zenit St Petersburg and Nuremberg.
