Barca woo Suarez

Reports emanating from England reveal that Reds managing director Ian Ayre was meeting Barcelona’s director of football management, Raul Sanllehi in London on Wednesday to discuss a possible transfer of the talented striker to the La Liga outfit.

It seems the Catalan club are not deterred by the fact that Suarez is currently under a four-month sanction from any kind of football which will only see the player return to action on the field in late October.

Suarez received the ban for biting Italian opponent Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay’s final group stage match at this year’s World Cup. The 27-year-old has since apologised, and Barcelona’s sweet-talking of the player following his apology has hinted at a possible move to Spain.

“Suarez has shown he is humble enough to admit an error, which is very important,” Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said.

“He has been humble enough to apologise to those he has affected, because it happened in the middle of a festival of football. In this case it’s the best thing a person can do."

However, Zubizarreta refused to speculate on a possible deal involving the Uruguay international.

“Everyone knows that Luis is an excellent player, everyone knows last season he played in various positions in attack, but everyone also knows that he is a Liverpool player,” he said.

Liverpool remain firm on Suarez’s release-clause of £80 million (R1.4 billion), yet Barcelona could spice up a possible move by offering Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, valued at £30 million (R552 million) as part of the deal.
