Speculation was rife that the Everton midfielder could be axed as skipper, but Igesund says he will keep a close watch on the situation before making changes, if any at all.

Igesund appears to have faith in Pienaar's leadership qualities, despite claims to the contrary.

"Steven will captain the team in Brazil despite what has been said," Igesund says.

Pienaar, along with May Mahlangu and Kagisho Dikgacoi, will only feature in the Brazil match before returning to their overseas clubs.
